Godsend (2004)
The film didn't know what it wanted to be
The acting and directing in this were good, what let it down was, in my view, the screen play by Mark
Bomback. He also did Die Hard 4 and the Night Caller, so not a lot under his belt. I think
he writes for an American audience rather than European.
This wasn't science fiction, too many science principles were just ignored at random. True
science fiction just makes one or two basic assumptions, that are different to our everyday scientific
understanding, and then follows through the consequences consistently. It wasn't a psychological
thriller as the psychology was all wrong. It wasn't a political statement about cloning since
it ignored how cloning works and propagated mumbo jumbo and myths for the sake of a story.
In my view not a film worth making or keeping. I regard it as equivalent to a cheap paperback
that you might buy at the train station to while away a long journey and then throw in the rubbish bin
as you leave at your destination.
